MURRIETA, Calif. (July 16, 2003) - AccuFLEX Golf's ICON v.2 shaft was used by AccuFLEX Long Drive Team member Greg Stafford to set the World Record of hitting 1,000 300-yard drives in a twelve hour period. This Long Distance / Endurance event was held at the Callaway Golf Learning Center in Las Vegas, Nevada on Tuesday in temperatures that reached 114 degrees. Stafford, who uses his Long Drive prowess to raise money for charitable causes, shattered the previous world record of 800 300-yard drives in a twelve hour period, which he set in 2002. Tuesday's event was covered by major newspapers and television stations in Las Vegas and was successful in raising funds for Cancer Research as well as for the Las Vegas LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Club. Stafford hit 919 balls that exceeded 300 yards, 80 more that passed the 400-yard mark and one that reached 450 yards, his longest of the day. When the 1,000th ball cleared the 300-yard mark, Stafford collapsed from the heat and had to be iced down for 30 minutes before he began to recover. During the day Greg experienced abdominal cramping and dehydration and was treated periodically by a therapist from Health South Golf.

"I can't say enough about the quality of the equipment provided by my sponsors, AccuFLEX and Burrows Golf," Stafford began. "I am pleased to report that I only used one driver during the course of hitting 1,000 balls from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm with enough force to make them travel over 300-yards. The AccuFLEX ICON v.2 is the most amazing shaft I have ever hit. It is lively with a great sensation through impact and yet it is very accurate. The shaft goes dead straight but with feel. Several local pros who hit my backup drivers with the ICON v.2 during the day had the same comment; 'it doesn't move', which, to a good golfer means that it goes exactly where you aim it. The MAC Powersphere stood up to the test as well. I am very grateful to these two technologically advanced companies for providing me with such great support. I couldn't have done it without them."

In 2002, when he established the record at 800, Greg used the 50" AccuFLEX Extreme LD long drive shaft. Greg selected the ICON v.2 this year because he wanted to go to a shorter club, which he believed would reduce the wear and tear on his body during this grueling event. Stafford also selected the ICON v.2 because of the fact that AccuFLEX Golf donates a portion of the proceeds of all sales of this shaft to The Bruce Edwards Trust. Edwards, as everyone has become aware this summer, is Tom Watson's long-time caddy who is struggling against the degenerative disease ALS.

"I am especially proud to be associated with AccuFLEX Golf because of their efforts to get involved in helping a fellow member of the golfing community," Stafford, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, concluded. "I try to align myself with people and companies that help others when they can. AccuFLEX Golf and its people clearly strive to help and it gives me a great feeling to be associated with them."

A portion of the proceeds from the sales of all AccuFLEX ICON v.2 and ICON v.3 shafts will go to benefit Bruce Edwards, Tom Watson's long-time caddy who has been diagnosed with ALS. For direct contributions and information, contact the Trust directly at:
