LAKE MARY, Fla. (May 7, 2002) - A quartet of challenging courses has signed up to host the first one-day qualifier events in the kickoff of the South Florida Territory activity for the third season of the $1,000,000 World Golf League (WGL), Director of Golf Operations Sammy Mula announced.

"The WGL is a membership league where anyone can play for pay," Mula explained. "When a Florida golfer joins the WGL for $105, their Membership Card allows them to play in a qualifying tournament with a chance to reach the $1,000,000 National Final Tournament set for Dec. 5-7 at the Ocean Hammock course at the Palm Coast (FL) Golf Resort."

WGL members who compete in the local South Florida one-day qualifiers and finish in the top 25%, using their handicaps, advance to the Regional Tournament to be held in late September. In the Regional, the top flight winners are then invited to the National Final where eight flights each will play for $125,000, with a top prize of $45,000. Last year, 60 golfers in a field of 370 shared $850,000 in prize money at the National Final held at Sea Trail Golf Resort in Sunset Beach, NC.

Mula confirmed the quality of the courses that will host the first one-day events. Included are May 26, The Forest Golf Club, Fort Myers; June 23, Lely Mustang Golf Club, Naples; July 21, The Colony Golf Club, Bonita Springs; and August 18, Olde Cypress Golf Club, Naples.

Mula, who is also WGL West Territory (Nevada/Arizona/Utah) Licensee, has over 22 years of experience as a PGA member and is a Class "A" PGA Professional. He is currently Director of Golf Operations and Tournament Director for the WGL at its Lake Mary, FL headquarters.

"I think it's a no-brainer to have a venue for amateurs to compete for serious money," he says. "The opportunity to be involved with the WGL will bring the thrill of competition back and give the average Florida golfer the opportunity to feel the pressure and intensity of players on the PGA Tour as they play for the big bucks."

The WGL Membership Card offers benefits valued at more than $3,000, Evans notes. Included are discounted green fees at over 2,500 courses, including a Club Directory; discounts on golf equipment and travel certificates; and exclusive travel and resort bookings through Golf Zoo.
