PALM CITY, Fla. -- Toll Brothers, the nation's leading builder of luxury homes and developer of Palm Cove Golf & Yacht Club, recently held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the 18-hole Chi Chi Rodriguez Signature Golf Course. Golf legend and SENIOR PGA TOUR player Chi Chi Rodriguez participated in the event. Completion of the course is expected in time for the 2002-2003 golf season. In addition, Toll Brothers celebrated the grand opening of its models at the community, which is located in Palm City. Palm Cove Golf & Yacht Club will feature 233 luxury homes on the St. Lucie River, Bessey Creek or golf course.

Pointing out how pleased Toll Brothers is to have Chi Chi Rodriguez involved in the design of the par 71 course, Toll Brothers Vice President Dan Grosswald noted, "Chi Chi is a seasoned professional who has played on both the PGA TOUR and SENIOR PGA TOUR. His illustrious career includes his induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Furthermore," Grosswald continued, "he has a home of his own in Palm City, and understands the lifestyle and conditions here, from the terrain, vegetation and weather patterns to the sun's angles. He has applied this knowledge to the design process in order to make the golf course at Palm Cove Golf & Yacht Club very enjoyable and memorable."

Rodriguez's Signature Golf Courses include TPC Tampa Bay-Tampa, Florida; Moss Creek-Dayton, Ohio; Dorado Del Mar-Dorado, Puerto Rico; Shimofusa Country Club-Japan; and "El Legado" Golf Club-Guayama, Puerto Rico.

The design objective was to make the course play "fair" while keeping it challenging. For the benefit of high-handicap players, the number of cross-hazards will be kept to a minimum. There will be multiple sets of tee markers on each hole, enabling players to choose their own degree of difficulty. In addition, the greens will be large and consistent.

"Enhanced by scenic and tranquil lakes, this course will be very playable and fun," he added, "with a design that is aesthetically pleasing as well as a complementary extension of the natural setting and surrounding development."

At the special event, VIP guests had an opportunity to tour Toll Brothers' two, new, designer-decorated models. Featuring interior design by Decorators Unlimited of Palm Beach Gardens, they include the Viana and Ciera. The Viana has four bedrooms with a den, four and one-half baths in a 4,500 square-foot layout. The Ciera -- a single-story home with four bedrooms, a den, and three and one-half baths -- has 3,600 square feet of air-conditioned living space. Both models showcase the characteristics that have made Toll Brothers' homes award winners: grand foyers for an impressive entry statement, soaring ceilings for a feeling of spaciousness, formal dining rooms, large family rooms situated off the kitchen for convenience and ease of entertaining, oversized outdoor lanais, and a host of luxurious interior appointments.

"In keeping with the master-planned Palm Cove community, the architecture of the models is traditional Mediterranean, reminiscent of the charming Old Florida residences built in the state during the 1920s," said Roger Dalal, Toll Brothers' senior project manager. "In designing these homes, we had several objectives. First was to meet the needs of buyers who want to live in the Treasure Coast area. Next, we wanted to ensure that these home styles would blend with the natural surroundings. Additionally, we set out to maximize views of the St. Lucie River at its widest two-mile point, as well as the fairways of the golf course."

At Palm Cove, Toll Brothers features 150 single-family luxury residences, with waterfront homes on the St. Lucie River, and interior homes bordering the fairways. Home designs span from 2,100 to over 4,500 square feet of air-conditioned space and are suitable as primary or secondary residences. Main living areas and master suites are situated towards the rear of the homes, and backyards have been given extra attention with the addition of 10-foot-high sliding glass doors. Generously sized, covered outdoor living areas also expand the enjoyment of the outdoors.

Dalal attributes strong buyer interest thus far to product diversity that allows one to choose from four different one- and two-story, three- to five-bedroom home styles starting from 3,200 square feet within the riverfront and golf estate section. Another enclave, fronting the golf course, features four distinctive two- to five-bedroom floor plans from 2,100 square feet.

In addition, Symphony Builders is building 41 townhomes at Palm Cove priced from $250,000 to $350,000, and golf residences priced from $350,000 to $450,000.

Dalal said that Symphony Builders has built and sold more than 1,000 high-end, semi-custom homes in some of South Florida's most prestigious communities (i.e., The Polo Club in Boca/Delray, In the Pines in Parkland, Marina Cove in Aventura and others).

Members of the private club will have access to a 13,000-square-foot, waterfront Grand Yacht Club geared to yachting, dining, fitness and swimming, which will include a full-service marina with 94 slips and a dockmaster. The facility will have a river-view dining room, bar, card rooms, workout facilities, locker rooms, and a pool.

Recreational opportunities will also be available at a second facility: a 5,000-square-foot golf & tennis clubhouse complete with a pro shop, a bar and grille, and locker rooms.
