Thoroughbred GCROTHBURY, Mich. (April 16, 2003) - Writers, editors, broadcasters and producers covering the Great Lakes State will have the chance to play one of its most spectacular courses. Labeled as one of America's best, the Thoroughbred Golf Course, located on the Double JJ Resort, is hosting a "Media Round-Up" on Saturday, May 17, 2003. The ceremonial shotgun start is scheduled for 1 p.m., with a reception and awards ceremony following at 6 p.m.

"We wanted to do something special to celebrate the Thoroughbred's 10th anniversary," said Joan Lipsitz, owner, Double JJ Ranch & Golf Resort. "What better way to commemorate this occasion then to have a friendly golf tournament with the media."

Award-winning course designer Arthur Hills will be among the special guests along with many Michigan golf professionals and media representatives from across the region. Participants can also enjoy any number of other activities available at the Resort, including horseback riding, hayrides, rodeo, evening entertainment and much more.

A championship level golf course, the Thoroughbred twists and turns its way across more than 300 acres of rolling ranch terrain. The course has received recognition in many major publications including: "Best New Course in Michigan and No. 3 in America" (Golf Digest, 1993); "One of the 10 most challenging courses in America" (Men's Journal, 1996); and "One of America's Best" (Golfweek, 1997).

The DOUBLE JJ RESORT is located on 1,500 acres in beautiful Western Michigan. The facility is open all year, offering five lodging choices, a full-service restaurant, on-site 3,600 foot grass airstrip, championship 18-hole golf course, family water park, general store, adult-exclusive dude ranch and over 100 horses. Ongoing activities revolve around the western theme.

THE THOROUGHBRED GOLF CLUB STORY

The Thoroughbred Golf Club is a golf course in one of the nation's most unique settings - where golfers can come to "shoot 'em up" and test their skills. 2003 marks the 10th anniversary of the addition of golf to the list of many activities that city slickers, golfers, and families can enjoy at Double JJ. Designed by nationally acclaimed architect Arthur Hills, Hills took a beautiful 400 acre section of the Double JJ Ranch and built a course of unparalleled natural beauty, incorporating miles of horse trails, a cranberry bog, Carpenter Lake, a forest of hardwoods, pines and wetlands.

Double JJ takes its horses very seriously as golfers will see numerous signs reminding them that horses always have the right of way. The horse trails cross the cart paths wherever you see wooden slats cutting across the tarmac running between holes. It is not uncommon to have your gallery consist of horseback riders at the Thoroughbred Golf Club.

The Thoroughbred Golf Club opened on the 4th of July 1993 and has garnered several accolades since its debut including: Best New Course in Michigan and No. 3 in America (Golf Digest, 1993), "One of the tem most challenging courses in America" (Men's Journal, 1996), "No. 1 upscale course in Michigan and No. 33 in America" (Golf Digest, 1996), "One of America's Best" (Golfweek, 1997), "One of the top 100 woman-friendly courses in America" (Golf for Women, 1999), and "4 _ Stars" (Golf Digest, 1998, 1999, 2000).

The two "official" signature holes at the Thoroughbred are Nos. 2 and 18. No. 2 is a long (446 yards from the tips) par 4 that wraps around a cranberry bog all the way to the green. Length is surprisingly not and issue off the tee, but it is on the second shot to the green, which requires accuracy to reach the putting surface over an enormous tree that sits along the edge of the bog.

One of the most exciting spots on the course is the tee-shot on the 8th hole. From the blue tee, guests at the Sundance Saloon and Steakhouse, which overlooks the 7th green and 8th tee box can see foursome after foursome of golfers teeing off from the back tees on the 8th located right under the restaurant window.

Two of the most pristine, breathtaking holes you will encounter anywhere are the Thoroughbred's 15th hole and the final signature hole the 18th. The former is a 428-yard par 4 (345 yards from the blues) that wraps to the right with Carpenter Lake guarding the right side all the way to the green.. No. 18 (par 5, 580 yards), is a classic three shot hole that wraps around Carpenter Lake like a giant horseshoe. Accuracy is at a premium on the tee-shot and the second shot leaving you a short pitch to a well-guarded green. It is one of the best finishing holes in Michigan.

If you're looking to sharpen your golf game, the practice facilities are fantastic, with a unique, target-rich driving range, two practice greens, and complete short-game and sand area. Individual and group lesson are also available through our PGA Golf staff.

The Double JJ Resort is not your ordinary golf resort: No where in the country will you find a golf resort that includes the fun and exciting adventures of a dude ranch, the family fun for kids at the Back Forty Ranch all complimenting one of the best golf courses in the Midwest.
