The Holeview And Audubon International Create An Environmental Yardage Book For Harbor Links Golf Course Contact Terry Gamer (July 22, 2003) - The HoleView has just completed a new Environmental Yardage Book for Harbor Links Golf Course, owned by the Town of North Hempstead and operated by Arnold Palmer Golf Management. The course has been certified as a Bronze Signature Sanctuary, for its environmental stewardship through participation in the Audubon Signature Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses. The Yardage Book that The HoleView developed with Audubon International reflects a strong environmental influence in a way that no other yardage book does. The most significant element are specific notes on pages in the Book where some environmental aspect might be interesting for the golfer to notice. For instance in the new Yardage Book for Harbor Links, the Environmental Note on Hole #17 reads "Take note of some of our beautiful wildlife species on this hole, such as the Great Blue Heron, Snowy Egret and Spotted Sandpiper. These and many others can be seen wading and foraging for food in the wetlands that surround this hole." "The HoleView Yardage Book reflects Harbor Links commitment to good environmental stewardship through the Audubon Signature Program, beginning with the planning and design stages of development and continuing today," said Ron Dodson, President of Audubon International. "I hope it sparks golfers interest in taking a closer look at the nature of the course." The Yardage Book has been designed for Harbor Links as part of a unique program for golf courses that become certified as Audubon International Signature Sanctuary Courses or Cooperative Sanctuary courses. This program involves the Golf Course Superintendent as well as Audubon personnel in describing the environmental elements. "We are working with several courses throughout the world," said Terry Gamer, HoleView President, "that are either Audubon International Signature or Cooperative Sanctuary courses. We are very gratified by the enthusiastic interest of these environmentally-conscious golf courses." |
