Hazeltine National Selected To Host 41st Ryder Cup Matches

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (April 2, 2002) -- Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn., has been selected as the site of the 41st Ryder Cup Matches, PGA of America officials have announced. That event is scheduled for September 2016.

Hazeltine National, which hosts the first of its two PGA Championships Aug. 15-18, will be the first club in Minnesota to host the biennial event that brings together teams from the United States and Europe in a match-play format. Hazeltine National also will host the 91st PGA Championship in 2009.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones in 1962 and remodeled by Rees Jones, in 1987, Hazeltine National has been the site of the 1970 and 1991 U.S. Open Championships, the 1983 U.S. Senior Open, the 1966 and 1977 U.S. Women's Open and the 1994 U.S. Mid-Amateur. The club also will host the 2006 U.S. Amateur Championship.

The Ryder Cup Matches originated in 1927, and have been conducted at 17 U.S. sites over the past 75 years. Here is the schedule for future Ryder Cup Matches:
