Joint Initiative To Boost Northwest Michigan Golf

9, 2003) - The Chambers of Commerce in Emmet and Charlevoix counties have announced
a new joint initiative designed to increase awareness and boost tourism in Northwest
Michigan. One key element of this initiative is the quality and quantity of great
golf in the area. Nearly 30 spectacular golf courses, most designed by the game's
masters, lie within an easy drive or shuttle ride of each other and promise a
richly diverse offering of holes for any length vacation.
Leading the way is Boyne USA's crown jewel Bay Harbor Golf Club designed by Art Hills. Bay Harbor, which is ranked #7 in the "Best courses you can play" by Golf Magazine, features 27 holes arranged in three spectacular nine-hole stretches. Boyne Highlands features the classic Heather by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the new Hills course, and the wonderful Donald Ross Memorial- a rendition of great Ross holes. The third Boyne property, the quaint Mountain Resort, is located 30 minutes south of Boyne Highlands. The Mountain features two 18-hole tracks, the Alpine and the Monument courses.
The Northwest Michigan area boasts several stand alone golf facilities including Belvedere Golf Club in Charlevoix. Designed in 1925, this classic parkland layout has played host to the Michigan Amateur Championship on 38 occasions. Charlevoix Country Club, designed by Jerry Matthews, features a combination of open holes, wetlands, and hardwoods. Crooked Tree Golf Club, another Boyne USA property, is perched on spectacular bluffs high above Lake Michigan winding through century-old pines and hardwoods. Little Traverse Bay Golf Club, another Jerry Matthews design, offers spectacular views of Lake Michigan. Other courses in the area include Antrim Dells, Dunmaglas, and Harbor Point.
