CARLSBAD, Calif. (April 2, 2002) -- Ashworth, Inc. (NASDAQ: ASHW), a leading designer of sportswear and golf apparel, today announced the start of initial shipments of its highly anticipated Callaway Golf(R) apparel into approximately 1,000 doors nationwide.

While the official launch of the new Callaway Golf(R) apparel line is scheduled for Fall 2002 (June 2002), Ashworth, Inc. developed a limited pre-launch offering due to strong demand from retailers, which is scheduled for mid Spring deliveries. The Fall and Holiday 2002 lines recently received strong reactions at the PGA Show and New York market week.

The Callaway Golf(R) apparel line consists of two distinct collections. First is the Callaway Golf(R) Collection, a sportswear collection consisting of rich styling with a sophisticated color palette and is perfect for evenings, office settings or even on-course play. Callaway Golf(R) Collection is targeted at better department stores, men's specialty stores and green-grass pro shops. Second is Callaway Golf(R) Sport Collection, which is designed and fitted with the active golfer in mind, using a combination of bold color and logoing and is well suited for on-course performance. The Sport line distribution is focused at a more active market including public and private golf facilities as well as off-course golf specialty stores and sporting goods stores. The Sport line is designed to appeal to a more active individual, and is distributed to the off-course market with a lesser emphasis to on-course green grass shops.

The early demand for the product has been very high, surpassing sales projections.
