Jean Dalmath ROCHESTER, N.Y. (November 5, 2001) -- The Wegmans Rochester International LPGA Tournament has selected Jay Advertising as its full service agency of record and marketing partner. Jay will provide advertising, marketing, brand management, promotion and public relations for the major tour event. "We are honored to be involved in what has long been considered Rochester's signature annual sports and community event," said Gregory W. Smith, President of Jay Advertising. "The tournament has also been a preeminent event on the LPGA tour. It has tremendous corporate and volunteer support, has raised record-setting proceeds for the Disabled Children of Monroe County and attracted loyal galleries. We look forward to building on this success and making the Wegmans Rochester International more exciting than ever." The agency's first task will be to re-image the tournament, which will celebrate its 26th year in Rochester in 2002. Jay has worked, in some capacity, with every LPGA tournament held in Rochester for the last 25 years. The agency handled advertising and marketing for the tournament when it debuted in Rochester in 1977-78 as the Banker's Trust Tournament and from 1979-81, when it was The Sarah Coventry. Jay has gained a national reputation for its expertise in all aspects of golf marketing and promotion from sponsor solicitation and ticket promotions to collateral, signage and media planning. The agency has been involved in dozens of successful professional and charity golf events around the nation including: the US Women's Open, JC Penney Classic, Nike Huntsville Open, Buick Open, Buick Invitational, Michael Jordan Celebrity Golf Classic, Emerald Coast Classic, Phoenix Open, National Car Rental Classic, American Red Cross Classic, Greater Greensboro Open, PGA Quicksilver Classic, American Airlines Celebrity Golf Classic, Ned Beatty Golf Classic, Utah Open, CVS New England Classic, Nike Tour Championship and many others. "As an agency we have made a special commitment to being involved in community-wide efforts like the Wegmans Rochester International," added Smith. "These major events draw people to Rochester from all over the world, they unite us in a common cause to raise needed funds for organizations like the Rotary Sunshine Camp and Camp Haccamo, they help boost our economy, and ultimately help make our community a stronger, more vibrant and better place in which to live."
